The journal
One desk, one season, one subject
Delyavia reports on the cold half of the year and on nothing else. It sells nothing, arranges nothing and takes no payment. This page sets out who makes it and who answers for it.

The desk
Marek Idzik produces all of this. Writing, photography, editing, the website itself. No staff, no contributors, no second set of credentials anywhere.
Buffalo has been home since 2011 and it is a working choice rather than an accident. An average winter here runs to something like a hundred inches of snow. The lake in front of the city freezes. A gorge forty minutes north ices over every January, and the deepest snow belt in the eastern United States sits two hours to the east. Almost every report on this site was reached by car in under three hours.
There is no photograph of my face here and there will not be one. What is worth looking at is the weather.
The word Delyavia
It is invented. Not a contraction, not an acronym, not a place, and not a word in any language I can find.
It came off a shortlist of things that were short, pronounceable, spellable over a phone line and not already attached to somebody's business. Stating that plainly seems preferable to letting a coined word imply a heritage. The masthead is Delyavia, the company is Delyavia Imprint LLC, and neither is older than the date in the record further down this page.
How a report gets made
The order is always the same and the first step is not the trip.
It starts with a pattern. A run of hard cold, a wind that will push ice, a band setting up over the plateau. When one looks likely I book a window of three to six days somewhere within reach and drive, with a room and a full tank and no plan beyond that. Most of a trip is spent waiting for the weather to do the specific thing it might not do.
Photographs get made across whole days rather than at two flattering hours. Overcast is the working light for snow and ice, and this region produces a great deal of it. Frames are graded for exposure, contrast and colour and never composited, relocated, or assembled out of several moments. What is in a picture was in front of the camera.
Then it waits. Cold makes an experience feel more significant while you are in it, and a report written the following week overstates everything. A month or two of distance settles that down, and what still seems true when the snow has gone is what gets printed.
Each report ends with the recorded conditions: temperature, wind, hours of usable light, what was open, what the ground was like. Those are the numbers I would want from somebody else.
What this is not
Not a shop. There is no basket anywhere on this domain, no price, and no mechanism by which money could reach the publisher from a reader.
Not a travel business of any description. No trip is planned, sold, booked, held or led. No commission is earned on anything and no reader has ever been handed on to a third party, because there is nobody to hand them to.
Not connected to anybody. No airline, hotel group, resort, rental firm, tour operator or reservation service has any relationship with this title, and no location in a report paid, hosted or supplied a thing.
Not a safety authority. The two working notes describe habits that suit one person on a shoreline with a tripod. They do not replace posted warnings, closures, highway advice or a current forecast, and where those disagree with this journal they win.
Who pays for it
Delyavia Imprint LLC, out of its own working funds, with no second source anywhere. Absent entirely: affiliate arrangements, commission, paid reports, donated equipment, free nights, and advertising of any description on the site as published.
Any change gets written here and on the Disclaimer, with a plain statement above the opening paragraph of every report involved rather than a line at the foot of the page. Anything advertising would be labelled from its first day, and the Cookie Policy would be rewritten ahead of a single item arriving in anybody's browser.
Corrections
Cold season detail dates quickly and it dates in ways that matter. A park gate that was open in February is padlocked the next winter. A stairway closes. A road stops being maintained. A reservation rule appears.
Anything wrong should go to [coldline@delyavia.com](mailto:coldline@delyavia.com). Corrections are printed at the top of the report with the date on them rather than being edited quietly into the text. Spelling repairs happen silently, because recording a fixed typo helps nobody.

The state filing identifier is left off this page deliberately. New York keeps an open register with identifiers issued in sequence, which means a number that looks right almost certainly belongs to an unrelated company. Filing office, formation date, tax identifier and registered agent identify a publisher perfectly well, and anything beyond that can be asked for through Contact.
Why the desk opens early
Because the working day here starts before light in winter and finishes when the light goes, and because a desk that pretends to be staffed all afternoon would simply answer everything late.
Post is read Tuesday through Saturday between 8:00 and 11:30 in the morning, Eastern Time. Anything arriving outside that waits for the next morning. Corrections are pulled forward, since those change what another reader might do.
